VCTC Intercity buses feature artwork by young local artists
If you could travel anywhere in Ventura County by bus, where would you go?
That was the question posed to Boys & Girls Clubs members across Ventura County who recently participated in an art contest aimed at educating youths about public transportation.
For the third year, the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ventura County for the art competition. VCTC provided the clubs with small grants to purchase art supplies, such as poster boards and markers, and a theme for inspiration: My Favorite Bus Trip.
Each club selected a winning drawing. The winning artwork was then turned into vibrant decals that now decorate the windows of six VCTC Intercity Transit buses. In addition, each winner received a keepsake canvas featuring a picture of their drawing on a VCTC Intercity bus.
So where do kids want to go? The beach! More than half of the winning drawings showed buses headed toward the ocean; the other winners want to travel to the Ventura County Fairgrounds and an indoor children’s entertainment center.
VCTC sends its appreciation to the following clubs for their collaboration on the project: Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Conejo Valley, Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley, and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Ventura.
We partnered with local Boys & Girls Clubs in Ventura County for an art contest. Kids were encouraged to hand draw a picture of the place in Ventura County they would most like to visit by bus.
